The past few days have been wonderfully sunny here in Paris, and as per tradition whenever a ray of sunshine strikes the city, people go all out with their sandals, shorts and sunglasses. This Parisian is no different !
A detour via rue Lombard
Today I veered slightly off my usual route home and found myself in rue Lombard, which is a funny place to be in the late afternoon.
It’s not as dodgy as rue Saint-Denis with all the sex shops and various « love » boutiques. Rather, the street is lined with bars and fast foods that cater to a mix of tourists and locals who invariably end up meeting in the hypercentral Chatelet-Les Halles area. Happy hour beer pints go for 3 euros so these bars make a killing in after-work hours. The whole tourists – bars – crowds is kind of reminiscent of Khao San Road in Bangkok, minus the cheap lodgings.
I ended up stopping for a snack at one of those quintessential Parisian fast food places : it’s a Pakistani-owned take-away joint that sells Lebanese wraps but also crêpes and paninis.
Falafel has to be one of my all-time favourite treats in Paris ! I was once a regular at Man’Ouché on rue Rambuteau but I have become less and less picky as time goes by.
